Owners of Amazon Kindle e-book readers have long dreamed of not displaying a useless splash screen on the device lock screen but the cover of the current book. Up to this point, it was possible to fulfil your dream only with the help of jailbreak, but now Amazon has finally added the Display Cover option to the reader settings.

However, there are several nuances. Firstly, this feature is not supported by the so-called “advertising” versions of readers, which are cheaper, but simultaneously display advertisements from Amazon on the lock screen (usually these are innocuous offers to purchase an electronic copy of a best-selling book). By the way, if you wish, you can turn the “advertising” version of the reader into a regular one for only $ 20.

Secondly, only relatively recent versions of readers can display the cover, including models:

  • Kindle (8th, 10th Gen),
  • Kindle Paperwhite (7th, 10th Gen),
  • Kindle Oasis (8th, 9th, 10th Gen),
  • Kindle Voyage (7th Gen).

The easiest way to check if your reader supports the new feature is to go into the settings and look for the “Show Cover” item. If it is not there, and your reader fits all other parameters, update the reader’s firmware to the latest one.

Amazon also noted that the Display Cover feature is supported by the vast majority of e-books, magazines and comics. Naturally, if you do not want your family and friends to understand at first glance what you are reading at the moment, then this function can be turned off.
