As part of today’s major presentation in China, Huawei announced the first smartwatch running its own HarmonyOS (the third platform change after Google Wear OS and its own LiteOS). The novelty is called Huawei Watch 3 and will be released in two versions: in addition to the basic version, there is also a premium Pro version – it is made in a more “classic “style of more expensive materials and stands out for increased autonomy.

Huawei Watch 3

The base model of the new generation of Huawei smartwatches is equipped with a rotating wheel on the right side (in previous models, a button was used), similar to the Digital Crown on the Apple Watch. According to Huawei, the wheel provides intuitive navigation through the user interface and is independent of weather conditions – it can be used even with wet hands and gloves.

Reducing the bezels around the display has become another priority in developing new smartwatches, but overall they have retained a design consistency with their predecessors. So, Huawei Watch 3 received a round OLED display with a diameter of 1.43 inches with a pixel density of 326 PPI, support for a refresh rate of 60 Hz, and a maximum brightness of 1000 nits. Curved tempered glass protects the screen. The watch case is made of stainless steel, and the case back is made of ceramic. There is protection against water 5 ATM – the watch can withstand the static pressure of a 50-meter water column (that is, you can swim freely in it but not dive).

The set of sensors on the back includes the expected heart rate, a SpO2 sensor for measuring blood oxygen saturation, and a sensor for monitoring body temperature. They work around the clock; The watch also features 24/7 stress and sleep tracking to identify potential health problems.

Also, the watch received an eSIM with support for 4G LTE – without a smartphone, you can make both voice calls and communicate via video. But there is no built-in camera, so you won’t fully communicate via video communication. By the way, the watch has a built-in speaker. The watch also supports fall detection (similar to Fall Detection in Apple Watch) and can automatically call the rescue service over a cellular connection. Of the geolocation systems, GPS, GLONASS, Galileo, Beidou, and QZSS are supported.

A special pride of the manufacturer is the support of the AppGallery application store for downloading applications directly from the watch without a smartphone. The user interface now has a launcher and a grid with panning and zooming to quickly access the apps you want. Huawei did not elaborate on the chipset but did mention the RAM (2 GB) and internal storage (16 GB).

Huawei claims up to 3 days of battery life in standard mode with 4G active and up to 14 days in Ultra-Long Lasting Mode with a key feature set: SpO2 monitoring, 14 exercise modes, Bluetooth calling, and even animated watch faces. Charging is done wirelessly. Speaking of activity tracking, the watch supports over 100 different modes, including 17 professional workout modes (outdoor and indoor).

Huawei Watch 3 Pro

The Pro version stands out for its more traditional design and has a bezel around the screen. And, as noted above, they differ in body materials and increased autonomy. The Watch 3 Pro case is made of titanium (the back case is ceramic), and a sapphire crystal protects the display. They are slightly larger and heavier – 48 × 48.6 × 14 mm and weighing 63 g (without a strap). The battery life is up to 5 days in standard mode and up to 21 days in energy-efficient mode. Another difference is the dual-band GPS module, which provides more accurate and reliable positioning in densely populated cities.
