The biggest event of the year for Apple is coming soon. Apple will host an event on September 7th at 10:00 AM ET. Here’s what to expect.
iPhone 14
This is Apple’s main autumn event, and traditionally it is dedicated to the new iPhone. The company will introduce four new iPhone 14s – the 6.1-inch iPhone 14 and iPhone 14 Pro, as well as the new 6.7-inch iPhone 14 Plus and iPhone 14 Pro Max.
Rumors also indicate that the Pro duo will receive major updates. The iPhone 14 Pro and iPhone 14 Pro Max will get a new dual cutout for the selfie and FaceID cameras, which will be combined in the software as a single long pill-shaped notch. The main wide-angle camera will have a new larger 48MP sensor that will allow 8K video recording. The ultra-wide-angle camera will get a larger sensor for better low-light shots, while the selfie camera will finally get autofocus and image enhancements.
Rumor has it that Apple will finally showcase an always-on display for the iPhone. Finally, the iPhone 14 Pro models will get the new A16 chipset. The Pro models are likely to get a $100 price increase in the US and probably significantly more in Europe.
The regular models will keep last year’s A15 Bionic chip and likely inherit the wide camera from the iPhone 13 Pro – a larger sensor with a brighter lens. Some rumors suggest that such models will get an improved ultra-wide-angle camera, but the reports are not sure about the possible autofocus on the selfie camera. The new iPhones will keep the Lightning port for another year, but charging speeds can go up to 30W.
All iPhone 14 models could have the innovative new satellite connectivity that Apple tried to introduce last year. This may be related to the event’s slogan “Far Out”. Satellite company Globalstar has been involved in providing communications for Apple.
Watch Series 8, Watch Pro, Watch SE
Expect to see the new Watch Series 8 with the faster S8 chip. It is unlikely that we will see blood pressure monitoring. However, a new temperature monitor is expected to alert the wearer to a possible fever.
Apple will launch a new device – Watch Pro. The watch will feature a 47mm case, compared to the 41mm and 45mm sizes of current Apple smartwatches. Rumor has it that the Pro could have a flat-edge display and superior build quality – perhaps a sapphire display and a titanium case. Expect the Apple Watch Pro to cost between $900 and $1,000.
Finally, there will be a new SE watch. They should keep the display size of the current Watch SE, which means the S8 chip will be the biggest improvement.
AirPods Pro 2
The three-year-old AirPods Pro are getting a replacement. The new AirPods Pro will be the first to support Apple’s lossless audio codec (ALAC), which could be linked to improved Bluetooth support. AirPods Pro may have a new design similar to Beats Fit Pro.
iOS 16
Apple should finalize iOS 16 and launch the update a week after the iPhone 14 event. Among the biggest features are a new customizable lock screen, notifications at the bottom, new profiles for different scenarios, and the ability to edit and undo messages.
