Apple’s next MacBook Air will feature an all-new design and come in a variety of colors, such as a 24-inch iMac, according to John Prosser, who has released supposedly accurate renders of the new machines based on leaked images.
In a new video uploaded to YouTube’s Front Page Tech channel, Prosser detailed his previous prediction that Apple’s next-generation MacBook Air models will come in a variety of colors and showed renders of the new machines. In his previous video, Prosser suggested that the next generation MacBook Air will have Apple’s M2 chip and be the successor to the current “MacBook Air” M1.
Prosser’s renders are purportedly based on leaked images of the aluminum MacBook chassis. Prosser said he came to the conclusion that the images depict the MacBook Air due to its ultra-thin profile and dissimilarity to the diagrams showing the next-generation MacBook Pro models.
Prosser said the “MacBook Air” design is no longer shrinking, but overall it is significantly thinner.
Like Magic Keyboards for the new 24-inch iMac, the MacBook Air’s keyboard appears to be white with full-size function keys. The larger function keys are said to have caused the entire keyboard to drop down, thereby reducing the size of the trackpad.
There will be two USB-C ports, one on each side of the device. Prosser said the MagSafe port was not visible in the images, so it was not added to the renders. A previous report from Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman said the next MacBook Air and MacBook Pro will return a MagSafe connector with faster charging speeds.
The underside of the MacBook Air will also undergo significant design changes as it no longer has four rubber feet for support. Instead, there will be two long vertical stripes.
The bottom half of the MacBook Air render is believed to be more accurate than the top half. The display and the size of its bezels are unknown and purely speculation, but Prosser said that, like the 24-inch iMac, the new MacBook Air will have white bezels.
One of the most significant changes will be the color gamut introduced for the first time on the MacBook Air. Prosser has learned about the blue and green MacBook Air, but there will be color options that reflect the 24-inch iMac’s color gamut. In particular, the colors will be very close, if not identical, to the shades you see on the new 24-inch iMacs. The iMac has more pastel colors on the stand as opposed to the bolder and more vibrant colors on the back of the iMac.
Prosser accurately predicted that the iMac would arrive in multiple color options earlier this year. It’s worth noting, though, that Prosser mistakenly assumed the iMac’s M1 would reflect the iPad Air’s color palette.
Prosser said the redesigned MacBook Air will go on sale by the end of 2021, if it arrives this year at all. This is very similar to the timeline outlined by Gourmet, who said Apple plans to release a new MacBook Air no earlier than the second half of this year or 2022.
