As expected, Intel today officially unveiled the 11th generation Intel Core mobile processors (Tiger Lake-H) – the company simply confirmed the information from the presentation, “leaked” to the network a few days before the announcement.

Tiger Lake-H are full-fledged “stones” of the Tiger Lake generation based on the current Willow Cove architecture with the number of physical cores from 6 to 8 units. They are also the first 10nm Intel CPUs for high-performance laptops – manufactured using the improved 10nm SuperFin process technology. They complement the current lineup of 11th Gen mobile Core CPUs, which until now have been presented in two series: the energy efficient Tiger Lake-U dual-core and quad-core models with a 15-28W configurable thermal pack for thin and light laptops and 35- watt Tiger Lake-H35 for gaming laptops. Tiger Lake-H processors will find use in new powerful gaming laptops, mobile workstations and ultraportables like the Intel NUC, and will compete with the 7nm AMD Ryzen 5000H (Cezanne) with up to 8 Zen 3 cores.

At the head of the new family is the eight-core Core i9-11980HK with Hyper-Threading support, which stands out against the background of its brothers with an unlocked multiplier and an increased cTDP up to 65 W. In Intel Turbo Boost Max 3.0 mode, it will be able to overclock up to 5 GHz with one or two of the most productive cores with a sufficiently effective CO. Also, the Core i9-11980HK in 65-watt mode will be able to keep a stable frequency of 3.3 GHz when loading all eight cores, while the base frequency in 45-watt mode will be 2.6 GHz. A notch below are the 8-core Core i9-11900H and Core i7-11800H with lower frequencies. The Core i7-11800H lacks Turbo Boost 3.0 support. At the very end of the list are 6-core Core i5-11400H and Core i5-11260H with a DDR4-2933 controller.

Among the distinctive features of the family are support for Intel Killer Wi-Fi 6E (Gig +), Thunderbolt 4 and an integrated PCI Express 4.0 controller for 20 lanes (here Intel is ahead of AMD, whose mobile CPUs are still with PCIe 3.0). Also, these processors have powerful integrated Iris Xe graphics with 96 computing units.

At the same time, Intel announced a separate H-Series for business notebooks and mobile workstations, which stand out with support for proprietary Intel vPro technologies for enterprise customers, as well as extended support times and security features.

In the official presentation, Intel claims the superiority of the 8-core Core i9-11980HK over the rival Ryzen 9 5900HX in a set of seven games, as well as the superiority of the 6-core i5-11400H over the 8-core Ryzen 9 5900HS in four out of seven games: in the first case for tests the company used a reference laptop with RTX 3080 (155 W) and compared with Lenovo Legion R900K with RTX 3080 (165 W), and in the second – a reference laptop with RTX 3060 Max-Q (65 W) and compared with the serial ASUS ROG Zephyrus G14 with RTX 3060 Max-Q. How things are with performance will actually be seen after the appearance of independent tests.

Various laptop manufacturers, including ASUS, MSI, Gigabyte and Razer, have already begun to announce their own devices with a Tiger Lake-H CPU, we will tell you about the most interesting new products separately.
