Android 12 is entering its final stages of development.

August 11, Google announced the release of the Android 12 Beta 4 build, which marked the transition of the product to the next key stage, Platform Stability. This means that the developers will not make any more functional changes but will focus on fixing bugs and increasing the stability of the update in preparation for the release of the final version of the OS. The next build, coming out later this month, will be a release candidate.

Now application developers can safely start actively testing software without worrying about new changes. They will have to make a lot of optimizations, given that the upcoming Android 12 stands out with a radically redesigned interface in the style of Material You, and Google itself calls the upcoming release “the most significant design update in recent years.”

Among other improvements in Android 12 – a new privacy panel that unites all privacy settings in one place, allows you to manage application permissions, and warns about any calls to the clipboard, a special dashboard with game functions, the ability to launch applications right when download and much more. In the new beta, some previously unknown details about the upcoming Google Pixel 6 smartphones have already been discovered – judging by the content of the source code, the smartphones use a 50-megapixel Samsung ISOCELL GN1 camera sensor and a 5G Samsung Exynos 5123 modem with support for bands below 6 GHz (Sub-6 GHz) and millimeter-wave standard (mmWave). So far, there is a lot of confirmation that the custom SoC Tensor – the hardware basis of the Google Pixel 6 – is being manufactured at Samsung’s facilities using the 5nm 5LPE process technology.

The release of the final version of Android 12 is expected in late August-early September. Last year, Android 11 came out on September 8th.
