Users of Chrome or other Chromium-based browsers may have received a notification that their password was associated with some data breach. In many cases, users close the notification and are in no rush to change passwords leaked because the current task is often more important or urgent. Now Google has developed a tool to deal with such situations. If the user is careless and is not in a hurry to change the password, the automated system will take care of this.
Changing your password can be a tedious process, especially if the user uses the same password on different sites. In this case, a leak from one resource reveals all passwords at once. Thus, the user has to go to the site, look for account settings, make changes, confirm the changes. And this procedure has to be repeated for each site, which may differ in structure, and therefore it may not always be convenient to search for settings.
But now everything will be different. The next time the user sees such a password compromise notification, they will also be shown a button labeled “Change Password.” After clicking it, Chrome will go to the appropriate site and help you change your password. This can be done both manually and using Google Assistant. However, for such automation, the site must be supported by the system. Otherwise, help will be limited to generating a new strong password using the Chrome password manager.
This new feature is based on Duplex on the Web. This is a system similar to the one that allows backups to be performed on behalf of the user. The system allows Google Assistant to perform routine tasks for a person. So far, the new feature is rolling out to Chrome for Android in the US. In the coming months, it is planned to expand the scope of its application.
