Apple has developed a software update for its AirTag trackers. This update makes it difficult for people to use trackers for secret tracking. In addition, Apple is also working on an app for Android users that will identify potentially unwanted trackers.

Apple announced AirTag trackers in April this year. They were marketed as a solution for tracking frequently lost items, such as keys. However, there have been concerns that the tiny devices could also be used to track people without their knowledge secretly. And after the release of AirTags, publications indicated the need for some improvements to make the devices more acceptable in terms of privacy.

Previously, if the AirTag tracker were away from the owner, it would start giving signals only after 3 days. After the update is released, the tracker will issue notifications after a shorter period of time – from 8 to 24 hours. The update was released on June 3 and should automatically install when AirTag gets close to the iPhone. Apple says the Android app will arrive “later this year” and will be able to detect both AirTags and other Find My accessories such as the Chipolo tracker.
