The new Vivo Y31 phone has everything you need: it has a large high-resolution screen, a high-capacity battery, many cameras for all occasions, as well as useful things in the form of USB Type-C, NFC, and even an FM radio. The smartphone replaced the Vivo Y30.
Vivo Y31 Comes With A Large Screen and Slim Body
Vivo Y31 has a solid format; it is large but not very heavy. The thickness of the case is quite moderate by the standards of classmates. Still, Vivo Y31 hides a solid 5000 mAh battery inside, and the thickness of the smartphone is 8.38 mm.
Over the past couple of years, I had to come to terms with the fact that they no longer make small phones: all Vivo Y31 classmates are large, and you will have to forget about one-handed operation. And since buyers prefer phones with large displays, compact models are a thing of the past.
The phone also has an eye-pleasing gradient back with smoothly rounded edges in addition to the slim body. It is not slippery, and when you hold the phone, your fingers rest on the flat sides. You can choose a more classic version in black as well. However, the case will not be matte but glossy: scratches are inevitable.
Of the specific points, I will single out the location of the fingerprint scanner. If you are right-handed, then everything is fine. But if the main hand is left, then this is unlikely to be pleasant. The scanner is not very responsive, and at times, there are false positives. As an auxiliary option, you can enable face unlocking, but this method is no longer reliable.
Display with Drop Notch and Thin Bezels
The display’s bezels are of moderate thickness, except that the indent at the bottom is too large. The cutout for the front camera is small and neat. If you put a dark background image, then it will not be noticeable at all.
As an option, the cutout can be hidden altogether using the software option. To my taste, last year’s Vivo Y30 looked more interesting where the front camera was located in the corner.
The diagonal is large: 6.58 inches, with a resolution of 1080 × 2408 pixels. The IPS-screen does not have the largest margin of brightness. Otherwise, there is nothing to complain about. It has a clear image, high resolution, against the background of last year’s Vivo Y30, progress is obvious, and against classmates’ background, the Vivo Y31 looks confident.
Cameras: One in the front and Three in the back
The block with three cameras is located on a protruding platform, the place is such that you cannot accidentally get there with your finger, so there will be no stained surface. The block design evokes thoughts of a more expensive Vivo X50 series – continuity and all that.
Of the three cameras, I most often used the main 48-megapixel camera: it will come in handy for all occasions. True, the default mode is 12 megapixels: as usual, several pixels are combined into one for a clearer picture with less noise. In the daytime, even in cloudy weather, the frames are of good quality, the phone has pleased with the pictures.
Two additional modules can be used according to the situation: one is needed to process the frame’s depth when shooting portraits, and the second is used when shooting macro. But it is only 2 megapixels – the quality is low, it is easier to shoot with the main camera, and then cut out part of the frame.
The phone has a night mode – as far as I remember, the Vivo Y30 did not have it. Low-light scenes now work better with more detail and fewer artifacts.

Without night mode:
The 8-megapixel front camera produces good selfie shots with a clear picture, but it all depends on the situation. Indoors, even in bright light, a good shot is not always obtained. If you wish, you can try out the soft effects on yourself, simulating studio lighting conditions.
Validation in Tests
The smartphone received the well-known Qualcomm Snapdragon 662 processor, which is regularly found in classmates.
In the tests, the situation is normal, the phone may not be a gaming one, but you can play anything if you do not overdo it with the graphics settings and choose medium parameters. The phone does not like throttling tests. The Vivo Y31 sags under load.
The Vivo Y31 has its own shell, Funtouch OS 11, hiding Android 11. It is very playful, works briskly, and does not slow down, and if you wish, you can customize the phone for yourself using themes or various animations.
The built-in memory is 128 GB, there is also a microSD tray, and the amount of RAM is 4 GB. In my opinion, this is enough for not the most demanding tasks, but with the active use of the smartphone, it is felt that the RAM is back to back.
The loudspeaker is located at the bottom end. It is quite sonorous but does not shine with quality.
Vivo Y31: Connectivity
Let’s go over connectivity capabilities. Two slots for SIM cards are in place. You can install a memory card at the same time without sacrificing an additional SIM card. Moreover, for additional protection, the tray is supplemented with a rubber gasket so that moisture does not accidentally get inside. There are NFC, dual-band Wi-Fi, and Bluetooth 5.0.
You don’t have to worry about whether the phone will last until the evening on a single charge. The 5000 mAh battery is enough for very active use of the phone during the day. It can withstand about 5.5-6 hours of games, and in the mode of watching videos on YouTube, it discharges about 10% per hour. Therefore, there is always a decent supply by the evening.
To quickly charge the phone, a complete 18 W power supply is used. It is connected to the USB Type-C connector, with the whole process taking an hour and a half. Taking into account the battery of increased capacity, this is quite fast.
Vivo Y31: Price
Vivo Y31 costs $225. The kit includes a charger, cable, and a silicone case.
Opinion: Should you buy Vivo Y31?
Last year’s Vivo Y30 looked more interesting in a few cases: I liked the front camera’s design more. A notch-less display is a rarity for an inexpensive phone. The phone also offered an optional ultra-wide-angle module, but the Y31 does not.
At the same time, the new Vivo Y31 bypasses its predecessor. So, now the phone has a larger, high-resolution display. At the same time, all the same, good autonomy, but the body has become thinner. The performance has also increased. The built-in memory is offered twice as much. The quality of shooting with the main camera has improved – in general, pleasant improvements are noticeable. Yes, and against classmates’ background, it also looks good, especially after the recent price cut.
