Update for Quest will allow you to record gameplay and the user himself at the same time

Oculus will soon be releasing software update v29 for the Quest and Quest 2 headsets, which will add several additional features and capabilities to the devices.

One of the more exciting innovations will be the Live Overlay function, which will provide an easy way to capture the user using VR overlaid on the content displayed in the headset from the first person. According to Oculus, any virtual reality app that supports streaming and recording will work with this feature. To use Live Overlay, you’ll need an iPhone XS or later, a Quest headset, and the updated Oculus iOS app. Then activate the function and point the camera at the user.

Other innovations also include recording the user’s voice through the microphone built into the headset during the broadcast or video recording. It also expanded multiplayer support and improved app sharing for owners of the original Quest so that multiple people can share games on the same headset. These features were originally limited to Quest 2 only, but Oculus previously promised to add them to Quest.

The update adds a new Files application to the library. According to Oculus, it will allow users to upload and download media “to and from their favorite sites” through the browser built into the headset. In other words, it will become easier for users to upload content to social networking sites other than Facebook.

The Infinite Office update allows iOS users (Android support coming soon) to see lock screen notifications right on their Quest headset. In the user interface, a shortcut to the Passthrough command has been added to the Quick Settings menu, giving you an alternative launch method instead of physically double-tapping the side of the headset.

Finally, Oculus will start showing VR ads on its mobile app. This innovation’s main goal is to empower both developers looking for an audience and users who may find new content. This can be useful for small developers who have created a quality product but are not familiar with more popular applications.
