TOP 5 Foldable Smartphones of 2020

In 2020, some companies started rolling out smartphones with foldable displays. The phrase “On the arena – all the same” is ideal for this situation. This year, users were pleased with the same manufacturers’ original novelties as the year before – Samsung, Huawei, and Motorola. Moreover, the South Korean company managed to announce four devices at once. We’ll cover three of them in this post. Huawei and Motorola showed another foldable smartphone.

Samsung Galaxy Z Flip

Samsung Z Flip

Samsung was the first to present its new product. On February 11, the presentation of the Samsung Galaxy Z Flip took place. The smartphone folds in half horizontally, i.e., it becomes much more convenient to carry it in a pants pocket. The device’s height decreases from 167.3 mm to 87.4 mm, the thickness increases from 7.2 mm to 17.3 mm, and the width remains unchanged at 73.6 mm.

The flagship is equipped with a 6.7 ”Foldable Dynamic AMOLED panel, covered with plastic. The resolution is 1080 x 2636 pixels. Above, even a camera was added – 10 megapixels. There is another screen on the outside of the lid – Super AMOLED, 1.1 ”, 112 x 300 pixels.

The rest of the parameters in the Samsung Galaxy Z Flip are flagship. There is a Snapdragon 855+ processor, a 12 Mp + 12 Mp main camera, and a 3300 mAh battery.

Huawei Mate Xs

On February 24, Huawei unveiled its second-generation bendable smartphone. He received the name Huawei Mate Xs. The flagship received two full-fledged displays at once—large, folded, and compact on the back.

The first has a diagonal of 8 ”and a resolution of 2200 x 2480 pixels. The second is 6.6 ”and 1148 x 2480 dots. The presence of a display on the back made it possible to abandon the front camera. The smartphone was left with three modules – 40 Mp, 16 Mp, and 8 Mp. We could see them back in Huawei P30.

Other characteristics are also top-notch. There is a Kirin 990 5G processor with dual NPU, 512 GB of internal memory, and a 4500 mAh battery. The quick charge has a power of 55 W.

Samsung Galaxy Z Flip 5G

In 2020, very few smartphones were presented with the Snapdragon 865+ chip with a frequency of up to 3.09 GHz. One of those is the Samsung Galaxy Z Flip 5G. It premiered on 22 July. This is the world’s first Snapdragon 865+ powered device.

The summer version hardly differs from the model presented in winter. The main innovation is a more powerful processor. Also, support for the Wi-Fi 6 standard and fifth-generation mobile networks appeared. This is where all the differences end.

Samsung Galaxy Z Fold2

In early August, Samsung showed another bendable smartphone. It was named Galaxy Z Fold2. The arsenal includes screens with a diagonal of 7.6 inches and 6.23 inches. Unlike Huawei, the South Korean manufacturer decided to keep the front-facing camera despite displaying it on the back. She received a resolution of 10 Mp + 10 Mp.

The main camera has three 12 megapixel modules each. The hardware basis is the Snapdragon 865+ processor. In the top configuration, the smartphone offers 12 GB of RAM and 512 GB of internal memory. The battery is responsible for the autonomy of 4500 mAh.

Motorola RAZR 5G

Finally, the latest novelty is the Motorola RAZR 5G. The smartphone was released in early September. It is made in the same form factor as the Galaxy Z Flip.

The 6.2-inch P-OLED display has a resolution of 876 x 2142 dots and folds in half horizontally. There is a “bang” with a 20-megapixel resolution “, and on the back, there is an additional 2.7-inch G-OLED screen.

Motorola RAZR 5G is a representative of the middle class. He received a 7-nanometer SoC Snapdragon. One of the drawbacks is the 2800 mAh battery. The company also decided to save money on the camera – they installed only a 48-megapixel sensor.

As you can see, the market for bendable smartphones is still quite small, even though the first such solution was shown two years ago. But we expect other manufacturers to enter the market already in 2021. In particular, LG is preparing a device that can be rolled into a roll, and Xiaomi can bring to mind the prototype shown more than two years ago.
