Elon Musk shared information about the battery capacity in Tesla Semi in anticipation of its production. Let me remind you that the electric truck was presented in 2017, and then two versions of it were announced: with a range of 300 miles (482 km) and 500 miles (804 km). Their cost should be $150,000 and $180,000, respectively.

Earlier it was expected that the capacity of Tesla Semi batteries would be 600 kWh and 1 MWh. But in an interview with Joe Rogan, the head of Tesla said that the truck would have batteries with a capacity of about 500 kWh. It was most likely about the younger version of the Tesla Semi with a power reserve of 300 miles. A version with a large power reserve will be available later.

A couple of weeks ago, a new Tesla Semi prototype was spotted in Sacramento. The company plans to begin producing the truck at the Gigafactory in Austin soon, with the first deliveries due later this year.

By the way, Bill Gates recently expressed doubts about the efficiency of electric trucks. Elon Musk responded in this regard that the weight of 500 kWh batteries is not a problem. Especially when using the new generation battery cells presented at the Battery Day event last year. The battery pack will become a structural part of the truck platform.
