Edition VTimes reports that Telegram is constantly suffering losses. This follows from the financial statements of the company for 2018–2020. Telegram now owes about $600 million to various investors, and the debt expires at the end of April. To pay off current loans, Telegram recently announced a bond issue that only select investors can buy. The company plans to attract $1 billion in investments. She will spend a significant part of this money on returning the debt to investors and will spend the remaining funds on continuing operations.

Telegram’s loss in 2018 amounted to $172.7 million, in 2019 – $150.9 million. Simultaneously, the company had negative capital: $172.7 million in 2018 and $323.5 million in 2019. Telegram’s liabilities exceeded assets – by $245 million in 2018 and $418 million in 2019. In the first half of 2020, the group maintained a deficit of $172 million.

“For 2.5 years, for which reporting is presented, the group did not receive income from operating activities, follows from the document. This did not prevent her from making a profit – $151.3 million in the first half of 2020. It helped a one-time income of $303 million as a result of a revaluation of debts to investors,” – writes VTimes.

Having settled with debts, the Telegram group will begin to monetize its messenger. The basis for earning will be the introduction of advertising posts, the sale of stickers, additional services for corporate clients, the introduction of games into the chat, and more.
