Samsung plans to ditch Tizen in smartwatches in favor of Wear OS.

Curious rumors have surfaced regarding the future of Samsung’s smartwatches. As you know, the company uses its proprietary Tizen operating system. It works quite well on the clock, and most importantly, it is very energy efficient, thanks to which the devices offer decent autonomy for this category of devices. Simultaneously, one of the system’s main disadvantages is the small number of third-party applications for it.

Switching to another OS like Wear OS can solve this problem. Google’s system has good potential, but it needs big vendors like Samsung to develop it. If the Korean company can successfully combine the Galaxy Watch and the Wear OS software hardware, it could be an exciting device. Personally, I would be happy with such a device because Samsung produces really cool watches, but the same Google services are clearly lacking.

However, this isn’t the first time we’ve heard of Samsung’s possible switch to Wear OS. Similar information emerged in 2018, when the company rebranded the smartwatch, replacing “Gear” with “Galaxy” in the name.

By the way, Samsung is expected to introduce two smartwatch models this year. They have code numbers SM-R86x and SM-R87x, which means they will most likely belong to the Galaxy Watch family (SM-R8xx). The presentation of the devices is expected in the second half of 2021.
