Philips 241B7QUPBEB Monitor Review: USB Type-C, Flicker-free technology, and Ethernet port

The hero of our review is an ideal option for users who prefer compact laptops to stationary computers. The fact is that the monitor is equipped with a full-fledged docking station. With its help, the laptop connected to the display will recharge and transfer data. If during testing it turns out that it has no problems with color reproduction, it can be safely recommended to designers – the design is suitable for creating multi-monitor configurations. Let’s unpack the monitor and start reviewing.

Exterior

The design of the monitor can be safely called frameless – in the off state, the frames around the screen are not visible. This visually expands the workspace, and the display itself appears light and sleek. In the lower frame, we noticed a sensor window that reacts to the presence of the user in front of the screen. As soon as he leaves the workplace, the monitor goes into sleep mode. Why is this technology needed? Firstly, it makes the Philips 241B7QUPBEB much more energy efficient than competing counterparts, and secondly, it allows you to hide the information you are working with from prying eyes – for this you do not have to minimize windows and close documents.

The back panel is made of matte black plastic. This has its advantages: yes, matte plastic does not look as impressive as glossy, but it does not collect dust and fingerprints – the monitor always looks neat.

There is nothing on the left and right sides – all connectors and built-in speakers are located at the bottom of the rear panel. Here we found HDMI, DisplayPort, VGA video connectors, USB-A ports, RJ-45 Ethernet and USB-C, the same docking station that the laptop connects to. With a single cable, it will recharge and transfer data to the built-in USB hub.

The stand deserves special attention. It allows you to change the position of the monitor as you like – turn it from side to side, tilt forward / backward, convert from landscape to portrait orientation – the latter mode is convenient to use for reading, working with tables, creating a cascade of several displays. There are holes for a VESA bracket, but we don’t see the need to change the “native” stand to an alternative one.

Built-in acoustics

The monitor has two speakers, which reproduce quite good sound. Of course, there are no basses, but the mid and high frequencies proved to be quite worthy: you can watch videos, listen to background music and sound presentations – you don’t have to clutter your office desk with speakers.

Test

The display is built on an IPS panel with a resolution of 1920 x 1080 pixels. The matte finish eliminates glare and reflections on the screen – even in bright light. The matrix is evenly highlighted – we did not find any Glow effect.

In the settings, select one of 7 modes: Easy Read, Photo, Cinema, Games, Economical, LowBlue, which reduces harmful shortwave blue radiation, as well as a custom mode with the ability to customize RGB channels.

The actual brightness even higher than stated – instead of 250 cd / m 2 we got 258. Contrast was slightly lower than this, but the difference is small, and does not affect the picture quality.

The viewing angles are wide – for any deviation from direct viewing, the image does not fade or distort – the IPS matrix shows itself in all its glory. There were no questions about setting the gamma – the graph curve exactly coincides with the reference curve.

The color gamut is almost 100% sRGB and 70% AdobeRGB. The DeltaE value is 1.1 – the color reproduction can be considered quite realistic.

Conclusions

Based on the results of the review, we boldly give Philips 241B7QUPBEB a solid top five. The laconic design will suit any interior. With a docking station, a laptop can be connected to the display, which will recharge without being connected to the network. Savvy users will appreciate the presence sensor, which saves energy.
