Gamers playing Amazon’s New World are reporting graphics card issues. Corresponding publications appeared from several users on the official forum of the game.
Apparently, the problem occurs on systems equipped with NVIDIA GeForce RTX 3090 graphics cards, which run alpha and beta versions of the New World game. After starting the game on such systems, the video card overheats, power surges, and image loss are observed. As a rule, the failure appears after 15-30 minutes of the game. There is reportedly no frame rate cap in the game’s main menu, which usually causes capacitors to hum. According to players, the most vulnerable are the GeForce RTX 3090 video cards from EVGA. After such a failure and the subsequent reboot of the system, some devices were never able to recover.
One of the New World closed beta participants said that the game already ruined the second EVGA GeForce RTX 3090 video card. In addition, he installed an old GeForce RTX 980 video card in the system, and it did not experience any problems when launching the New World game.
In other words, Amazon New World’s game, in some cases, incapacitates the GeForce RTX 3090 graphics card, and EVGA products are especially vulnerable. Thus, we recommend refraining from launching the New World game until updates are released, especially on systems with GeForce RTX 3090 graphics cards.
Shortly after complaints about the “scouring” of video cards by the New World game, Amazon issued a statement:
“Hundreds of thousands of people played the New World Closed Beta yesterday, and the total playing time is in the millions of hours. We’ve received several reports of players using high-end graphics cards experiencing hardware failure while playing New World.
New World makes standard DirectX calls as provided by the Windows API. We haven’t seen any signs of widespread issues with the 3090 series, either in beta or in months of alpha testing.
The New World Closed Beta is safe to play. To further reassure players, today we are releasing a patch that limits the number of frames per second on our menu screen. We are grateful for the support New World is receiving from players around the world and will continue to listen to their feedback throughout and beyond the beta period. “
In other words, as a solution to the problem, Amazon intends to limit the frame rate in the menu. However, the company does not consider the breakdown of some GeForce RTX 3090 graphics cards to be a “widespread problem.”
