Microsoft, following Apple and other technology companies, is suspending sales of goods and services in Russia due to the war against Ukraine. About it announced on the official blog March 4, Microsoft President and Vice Chairman Brad Smith.
“Like the rest of the world, we are filled with horror, anger and grief at the photos and news of the war in Ukraine, and we condemn this unjustified, illegal and unreasonable Russian invasion,”
Brad Smith
President and Vice Chairman of Microsoft
Microsoft confirmed the suspension of the company’s services, including the Microsoft Store, as well as the suspension of the supply of new products to Russia.
Microsoft said it is closely coordinating and cooperating with the governments of the United States, the European Union and the United Kingdom, as well as stopping many businesses in Russia in accordance with government sanctions. At the same time, Microsoft does not specify what will happen to Xbox gaming services in Russia.
The corporation promises to help the government of Ukraine in the field of cybersecurity, and will also allocate funds to help the residents of the country who have suffered from Russian occupiers.
“Since the beginning of the war, we have resisted Russia and its attempts to blow up or disrupt the work of more than 20 Ukrainian organizations from the government, financial and IT sectors. We have also taken action against cyberattacks on several sites. We have openly expressed our concern that such attacks on ordinary citizens violate the provisions of the Geneva Conventions.
In addition, we continue to mobilize our resources to help the people of Ukraine. Our Microsoft Philanthropies teams work closely with the International Committee of the Red Cross, as well as several UN agencies, to help refugees by providing them with technological and financial support through key civil society organizations, and, where necessary, protecting these groups from cyberattacks.
We care about the safety of our employees in Ukraine and are in constant communication with them to offer support in various forms, including those who have had to move for their lives or safety.
Like many others, we, together with Ukraine, call for the restoration of peace, respect for the sovereignty of Ukraine and the protection of its people.”
