Microsoft has developed a new solution for businesses forced to use employees’ teleworking in the context of the ongoing coronavirus pandemic. Microsoft Viva is a platform designed to solve the problems and challenges (for both companies and employees) working from home. It is designed to improve teleworking and help businesses adapt to it.

“We were involved in the world’s largest remote work experiment,” says Microsoft CEO Satya Nadella. “As the world recovers, there is no turning back. Flexibility in choosing when, where and how we work will be key. ”

The Viva platform integrates with Microsoft Teams and acts more like an old internal network, bringing together its main parts in a central location. Microsoft divides Viva into four modules: Connections, Insights, Learning, and Topics.

Connections include internal communications or resources. This module is intended to become a portal for newcomers, where they will go at the initial stage of work in the company when they have not yet met with their colleagues due to restrictions. It is a gateway to a new digital workplace. Viva Connections is built on Microsoft SharePoint technology and will include company news, resource groups, and employee communities. In fact, this is a control panel for remote communication with colleagues.

The Viva Insights module will include analytics for managers and executives to track work patterns and trends. At the same time, a high level of confidentiality is declared. Simultaneously, personal information is visible only to the employee, and information for managers and managers is combined by default. It does not contain identifiers, which should ensure the protection of personal information.

The Viva Learning module is designed for employee training and development. Here employers will be able to post-training materials, courses, and other content to improve employees’ skills. This section will include LinkedIn Learning, Microsoft Learn, company-owned content, and training material from third-party providers.

The Topics module uses artificial intelligence to organize content and automatically displays thematic cards with documents, videos, and related people. Cards are generated from data from Office, Teams, and SharePoint apps.

Microsoft Viva platform is partially launched today. Viva Topics is already available for Microsoft 365 customers, and Viva Insights is a public preview. The Learning module is a private preview. More detailed information on the Microsoft Viva platform will be published throughout 2021.
