Microsoft Announces Surface Pro 8 and Surface Slim Pen 2

Microsoft at today’s event presented a new generation of the Surface Pro tablet. This is the biggest update to the device since the Surface Pro 3 was announced in 2014.

First of all, it is worth noting the PixelSense Flow display, which now not only has a larger diagonal (13 ″ versus 12.3 ″ in the Surface Pro 7), but also a higher resolution (2880 × 1920 pixels) and a refresh rate of 120 Hz. By default, the screen operates in 60Hz mode, but automatically doubles the frequency when the user touches it or performs some tasks with the stylus. In addition, the display supports Dolby Vision and Adaptive Color Technology. The bezels around the screen have been reduced to make the tablet look more like the Surface Pro X.

The Surface Pro 8 is powered by 11th Gen Intel Core processors (i5-1135G7 or i7-1185G7) with Intel Xe integrated graphics. The device can be purchased in configurations with 8 GB, 16 GB or 32 GB of RAM. Built-in storage capacities range from 128GB to 1TB. There are Wi-Fi 6 and Bluetooth 5.1 modules, 3.5 mm audio jack.

The USB-A port in the tablet was abandoned, now two USB-C 4.0 / Thunderbolt 4 are available to the user, which means that you can connect multiple 4K displays, external GPUs and high-speed drives to the device. At the same time, for charging, as before, there is a proprietary Surface Connect connector. On a single charge, the tablet can work up to 16 hours. The main camera now has a resolution of 10 MP and supports 4K video recording, while the front camera still has a resolution of 5 MP (1080p), but should perform better in low light conditions.

The redesigned Surface Pro Signature Keyboard now includes the new Surface Slip Pen 2. The stylus charges while hidden in the keyboard. It is equipped with a Microsoft G6 chip and a vibration motor that makes it feel like you are writing on paper. The engineers have also reduced the latency of the Surface Slip Pen 2 and improved drawing accuracy with a redesigned nib.

The Surface Pro 8 starts at $ 1,099 for a Core i5-1135G7 configuration, 8GB of RAM and a 128GB SSD. Available in two colors: Graphite and Platinum. The date of going on sale has not yet been specified. But given that the release of Windows 11 is scheduled for October 5, most likely hardware innovations will be released in the near future.
