After nearly a year of rumors, Apple has finally unveiled the 2020 iPhone SE. The device has the same design as the iPhone 8, with a 4.7-inch display and Touch ID button, but has a faster A13 Bionic chip and an improved camera. Most importantly, the new iPhone SE costs only 40,000 rubles in Russia.
Since the iPhone 8 and iPhone 8 Plus have already been discontinued, iPhones now start with the iPhone SE and iPhone XR. We tried to compare them, although there is a two-year difference between their release.
Differences
Large or small screen
The new iPhone SE has a 4.7-inch display, while the iPhone XR has a 6.1-inch display. Both screens with 326 PPI, True Tone, 625 nits brightness, and 1400: 1 contrast ratio.
A13 Bionic vs. A12 Bionic
The new iPhone SE is powered by the A13 Bionic processor, the latest and greatest chip ever. It is also found in the iPhone 11 and iPhone 11 Pro. In comparison, the iPhone XR is powered by the previous generation A12 Bionic chip.
The A13 chip is 20 percent faster and 30 percent more energy efficient than the A12 chip.
Frames or button
The new iPhone SE has the same design as the iPhone 8. There are bezels around the screen, but there is a Touch ID button on the bottom. By comparison, the iPhone XR doesn’t have a button anymore. And the display only has a notch at the top for the camera and Face ID sensors.
Touch ID vs. Face ID
The iPhone SE has a Touch ID button for fingerprint authentication. And the iPhone XR uses Apple’s more advanced Face ID system for face authentication.
Face ID debuted on the iPhone X in 2017. However, both forms of authentication are fairly secure, so it comes down to personal preference.
Face ID doesn’t work with masks, and Touch ID doesn’t work with wet fingers. Therefore, no system is perfect.
Since the new iPhone SE lacks Face ID, it doesn’t support Animoji or Memoji.
Main camera
The new iPhone SE and iPhone XR feature a 12MP f / 1.8 wide-angle rear camera. The iPhone XR has a newer sensor with 1.4μm pixels and larger focus pixels, whereas the iPhone SE has the same sensor as the iPhone 8. However, the new iPhone SE benefits from the improved image signal processor in the A13 chip, so the gap is between cameras is probably minimal.
Battery
As a physically larger device, the iPhone XR has a longer battery life than the new iPhone SE.
Apple says the new iPhone SE has up to 13 hours of video playback and 40 hours of audio playback, roughly the same as the iPhone 8. In comparison, Apple claims the iPhone XR has up to 16 hours of video playback and 65 hours of audio playback. Audio playback.
Wi-Fi
The new iPhone SE supports Wi-Fi 6, aka 802.11ax, while the iPhone XR supports Wi-Fi 5 or 802.11ac.
Wi-Fi 6 delivers faster speeds, more network bandwidth, improved power efficiency, lower latency, and improved connectivity in areas with multiple Wi-Fi devices. Wi-Fi 6 devices must also support WPA3, the latest Wi-Fi security protocol with improved cryptographic strength.
LTE
The new iPhone SE supports Gigabit-grade LTE, potentially allowing slightly faster LTE speeds over the iPhone XR.
Thickness and weight
The new iPhone SE is 7.3mm thin and weighs 148g, while the iPhone XR is slightly thicker and heavier at 8.3mm and 194g.
Price
The new iPhone SE starts at $ 39,990, and the iPhone XR starts at $ 49,990, both with 64GB storage. Both devices are also available with 128GB of storage, but for now, only the iPhone SE has a 256GB option.
In the future, the $ 549 256GB iPhone SE is still cheaper than the $ 599 64GB iPhone XR.
Colors
The new iPhone SE and iPhone XR come in black, white, and PRODUCT (RED), while the iPhone XR is also available in blue, coral, and yellow.

Conclusions
If the price is the key, then the new iPhone SE is a beautiful device. Especially considering that it has the same A13 Bionic chip as the iPhone 11 Pro, even though it only costs 39,990 rubles.
If you’re updating from an old device like iPhone 6 or iPhone 7, you’re already familiar with the Home button on the new iPhone SE, while the face and gesture identification on iPhone X and newer takes some time. To get used to. And with a 4.7-inch display, the new iPhone SE is also the same size as the iPhone 6, iPhone 7, and iPhone 8.
The new iPhone SE could also get at least one more year of iOS updates over the iPhone XR, given its newer Bionic A13 chip.
Two reasons for choosing the iPhone XR over the new iPhone SE will be its large 6.1-inch display and modern slim-bezel design with Face ID. The new iPhone SE may well be the last iPhone Apple has made with a Home button.
