At the end of 2020, a valuable employee, the developer of the Merlin and Raptor rocket engines, Thomas Muller, left SpaceX. After that, he founded his own space company Impulse Space Propulsion in September 2021.

March 29 Impulse Space Propulsion announced to raise $20 million in seed funding led by venture capital firm Founders Fund. The funds will be used to accelerate the development of the first orbital vehicle.

Impulse Space will introduce last mile delivery services for satellites launched as part of joint missions, likely including the SpaceX Falcon 9. Over time, the company plans to expand its space transportation services to geostationary space, the Moon and beyond. At the same time, it is planned to use environmentally friendly fuel and provide delivery and towing services at a low cost.

Impulse Space currently employs about 20 people, many of whom have worked with NASA, GE, Joe Gibbs Racing, Virgin. Recently, another former SpaceX employee, Barry Matsumori, joined the company. He was Senior Vice President of Sales and Business Development at Elon Musk’s Rocket Company from 2011 to 2015. He now works for Muller as chief operating officer.
