Summary

A new watch’s cost is quite affordable for such a set of functions: about $110. They are not afraid of water and dust; they work for at least a week without recharging; they do an excellent job monitoring sleep and activities. The bright screen and (finally) square shape will appeal to those who receive many notifications throughout the day. So, if you are not obsessed with the round watch form factor, this device has every chance to please you.

Huawei’s first rectangular smartwatch! But shape is not their only impressive feature. We study in detail.

We have already said more than once that the line between fitness bracelets and smartwatches is gradually blurring. So the new Huawei Watch Fit is not a princess, not a frog, but some unknown animal. The manufacturer positions the device as a smartwatch, although it looks like a steroid-powered bracelet.

Huawei Watch Fit: Design and screen

  • Screen diagonal: 1.64 inches, AMOLED
  • Resolution: 456×280

While most manufacturers stubbornly produce round-case watches, nodding to expensive chronometers, Chinese companies do not allow themselves to be captured by convention. Well, why do you need a round dial if you are mainly looking, not time, but notifications or menus? The Huawei Watch Fit was the brand’s first rectangular watch. And this immediately attracts attention: for example, a received short message can be read on one screen without any scrolling. Much more convenient than a round watch.

A little about the screen itself: it is AMOLED with a diagonal of 1.64 inches and a resolution of 456×280 pixels. Brightness can be adjusted manually or automatically. The second option seemed not ideal: the readings were not always readable under the sun, although the maximum potential brightness is sufficient for any conditions.

There are a lot of screensavers (dials), as expected. In different styles – from strict to “cute.”

Moreover, if there are not enough of those already in the watch (we would like to see this person), you can pick up something from the health application’s assortment with which the watch is synchronized.

The silicone watch strap is available in three colors: graphite black, sakura pink, and mint green. We got the “mint” version for the test. The strap is excellent, flexible enough, fits well even on a thin wrist.

The Huawei Watch Fit has two controls. Of course, this is a touchscreen, and in addition to it, there is a mechanical button on the right side. Accordingly, to change desktops, you need to swipe to the sides, to call the menu – down, to get to notifications – up. No customization or settings, just one algorithm.

There is no microphone or speaker here. There is also no way to reply to a message.

Huawei Watch Fit Functions: fitness and more

Since watches and bracelets are still unthinkable without fitness features, manufacturers pay a lot of attention. In Huawei Watch Fit, they managed to lay as many as 96 different programs. Among them, for example, yoga, Pilates, martial arts, some types of dancing. Well, more – not less.

In addition to the standard running modes and courses, there are also “Animated workouts”, which seem to give an additional incentive to sports activity. A drawn character shows you how to do the exercises – you see it right on the watch screen.

All is well, but, as the famous anecdote says, there is a nuance. Any sports exercise (yes, even squats) requires correct execution. Otherwise, they do not have a special effect, and sometimes they can even be dangerous for the student. Animated pictures give only a general idea of the exercise, and who will “put” it to the user? In short, a good idea, but we would not call it very useful.

The rest of the functions are pretty standard. An alarm clock is a reminder about the need to move, monitor the heart rate, and sleep. The watch can also measure the level of stress – this function has recently appeared in budget wearable devices.

Also, a must-have of our coronavirus reality is the control of the oxygen level in the blood. As you know, a drop in this level can become one of the “covid” symptoms. Huawei Watch Fit can control the music and camera on the smartphone.

Huawei Watch Fit: Autonomy

The new watch has a 180mAh battery. Actual autonomy depends on the intensity of use and the included functions. Our operation turned out to be quite active: we explored the modes while we figured out the settings. Plus, it always enabled sleep monitoring, tracking the pulse and stress levels. Charging was required only on the eighth day. It took about an hour (standard 10W device).
