A top-end Samsung HW-Q70T soundbar came to me for testing. I must say right away that Samsung also has a TV of the same name: Q70T. It’s easy to guess that they were made for each other, but in my case, not the latest Samsung QLED TV, but my old device.

What makes the Samsung HW-Q70T Soundbar good?

There are a lot of soundbars on sale. This model was developed with the support of the California-based Samsung Audio Lab. This is a 3.1.2-channel 330W system with support for Dolby ATMOS, DTS: X, and HDR 10+. A neat and high-quality case, a powerful subwoofer, and an adaptive sound mode.

Unpacking Samsung HW-Q70T Soundbar

The acoustics arrived in an L-shaped box: the soundbar is packed together with a subwoofer in a kind of double cardboard container. In the kit, we get a remote control with two power cables: one for the soundbar, the other for the subwoofer. There are also brackets and screws for wall mounting, plus stickers on the legs. And even in the box, you will find optical and HDMI cables. They did not save on trifles.

Elegant Design of Samsung HW-Q70T Soundbar

The soundbar turned out to be laconic. It doesn’t attract too much attention: an angular black bar with metal grilles in the front and upper parts of the body. Simple, practical, and if you suddenly decide to feel the Samsung HW-Q70T soundbar, you will be satisfied with the materials.

On the right, there is a small screen where you can see the set volume level, the selected sound profile, the activated input. The data can be seen well, but due to its compact size, the entire text does not fit, and it goes as a creeping line.

You can control the soundbar both with buttons on its body and through the remote control. If you are using the soundbar in tandem with a Samsung TV, you can only use the TV remote control.

Sound

Use the remote control to select the appropriate sound setting: “Standard,” Surround, Game Pro, and Adaptive. I liked the last option the most. I appreciated how the acoustic beam technology works. For example, in the game or the film plot, the enemy has settled down somewhere on the roof and shoots from there, in which case the sounds of the shots will be heard from above. And if suddenly he runs up to the right and shoots, then the sounds will be on the right side. Playing your favorite Red Dead Redemption 2 has become more pleasant.

Three speakers are located in the center of the soundbar. They convey the voice of characters in the cinema, while it is not drowned out by background music or extraneous sounds. The pair of speakers is directed upwards, the sound is reflected from the ceiling – this is how Acoustic Beam technology can be briefly described.

The appearance of a new soundbar at home coincided with my desire to see the film “Film” finally. On the face of it, not so masterpiece. It does not pull a second time to revise, but it was filmed soundly and beautifully, and on the scenes of the fight against submarines, with all these shots and dropping depth charges. The room is filled with a feeling of fear and worry about the command of the American ship.

As for the Game Pro mode, I also tried it in games, but it feels like it’s not as effective as Adaptive, where the atmosphere is more accurately conveyed. And not only in films, but also in games.

An Apple TV is connected to the soundbar via HDMI, and Spotify is set up on it to listen to music. Alternatively, you can connect your audio source via an optical cable or Bluetooth.

For my taste, the Samsung HW-Q70T soundbar has a natural sound without overly saturated low frequencies drowning out everything around. You can add bass if you want by playing around with the EQ settings, but I liked the default settings. The middle and high frequencies are very well developed.

I would like to see support for AirPlay and Chromecast in a soundbar of this level. It would be convenient to stream music or video directly from the phone using Alexa.

I also want to add that, if you wish, you can buy additional speakers and strengthen the rear by placing wireless speakers next to the sofa, creating the feeling of a three-dimensional scene.

Fast connection

Everything is straightforward: we connect HDMI to one side of the soundbar, the other to the TV. Then we tackle an active wireless subwoofer with a 6.5-inch driver. It can be placed anywhere, as long as the outlet is nearby. After that, we select the sound source in the TV settings.

    Hi, Ruby,

Thank you for your excellent “Samsung HW-Q70T” soundbar review! I have some followup questions, if you do not mind, please:

Does the “Surround” effect mode work without rear speakers?
Can I use “Adaptive Sound” and “Surround” modes at the same time?.
Does “Adaptive Sound” work with every Samsung TV?
Does “Acoustic Beam” work automatically, or do I need to activate it?

    Sincerely,
    Bruce Glazer

      Hello Bruce,
      I appreciate it 🙂
      1. Well, surround effect is all about using your rear as well as front speakers. Though you will definitely feel the surrounding effect, it will be less effective.
      2. If it is connected to Samsung TV then yes. 🙂
      3. Yes, it works only with Samsung TVs.
      4. It works and adapts automatically 🙂

Let me know if you have more queries.
      Thanks and Regards,
      Ruby Singh

        Hi again, Ruby,

Thank you kindly for your very helpful replies! I do have one more problem that I have been testing for the past few weeks…

My Samsung HW-Q70T soundbar is connected to my Samsung NU8000 TV. It can;take anywhere, from about 1-10 seconds, for the TV speakers to shut off. I have timed this by listening to the echo from the the TV and soundbar while both are simultaneously producing audio (until the TV speakers shut off). Any recommendations, please? Have I missed a software update?

FYI: I tried contacting Samsung, but their Chat robot seems to be having a nervous breakdown and is useless.

        Sincerely,
        Bruce Glazer

Thank you, Ruby, for your reply and link!
Unfortunately, the link appears to be focused on the Auxiliary input, which my soundbar does not have. I am hoping that Samsung will offer a software update soon because I do not have a solution to this overlapping sound.

I am still very happy with my purchase but also disappointed that Samsung has created this problem without a solution yet.

    Hi again, Ruby!

I am curious: Would I receive better sound by pointing my “Samsung HW-Q70T” soundbar speakers toward the ceiling or towards the front of the room where I am sitting, please?

    Bruce
