Appearance and design: 27-inch Philips 278E8QJAB Monitor

The monitor boasts a modern, minimalist design that will fit into any interior – both office and home office. The body is made of durable plastic, glossy texture prevails. Considering that gloss collects fingerprints, the manufacturer has placed controls and connectors on the rear panel so that you don’t have to touch the front part often.

Assembling the monitor turned out to be simple: we screwed the base to the leg with a screw and fixed it in a special hole in the case. Despite its elegant appearance, the stand turned out to be stable: the weighty monitor stands on the table like a glove. It can be used to adjust the angle of rotation of the monitor. You won’t be able to change the height or convert the display from landscape to portrait – however, this is not necessary for a large concave monitor.

The display is equipped with connectors that allow you to connect it to various devices: stationary computers, laptops, game consoles. We found DicplayPort, HDMI, VGA. Provides audio output and headphone port. Near the connectors are the built-in stereo speaker grilles.

Basic image parameters can be adjusted with a single joystick located on the rear panel. It is also used to turn the display on and off.

The settings are conveniently adjusted using the SmartImage Lite menu, which offers four layouts. The first – “Standard”, is suitable for work in office programs. The second – “Internet” – for surfing the Web. The third – “Games”: in this mode – the minimum response time, dynamic scenes are smooth, without slowdowns and screen tears. For gamers, there is a SmartResponse function that automatically removes artifacts during fast frame changes. Fourth – LowBlue, which reduces the proportion of harmful blue radiation in the backlight.

Once the user chooses the scenario that suits them, SmartImage Lite adjusts brightness, contrast, sharpness, gamma and other parameters. By moving the joystick up, select the signal source: VGA, DisplayPort or HDMI, down – adjust the volume.

Testing: 27-inch Philips 278E8QJAB Monitor

Let’s start testing with color gamut. Here it is simply gorgeous: 104% of the NTSC palette and 130% – sRGB! The image is bright, juicy and contrasting brightness is 250 cd / m 2 , the contrast – 3000: 1. We were pleased with the viewing angles: they are wide both vertically and horizontally – the image does not “float” even with a significant deviation from the normal.

The response time is rather long for professional gaming – 4 ms. However, Philips 278E8QJAB is not a gaming machine. At the same time, there is AMD Free Sync technology, which eliminates freezes, screen tearing and freezing in dynamic scenes.

27-inch Philips 278E8QJAB Monitor: The Conclusions

Philips 278E8QJAB is suitable for those looking for a budget monitor and at the same time making high demands on it. The display reproduces a rich, vivid image, supports technologies for eye protection and automatic settings. It has stereo speakers that are convenient for watching videos and listening to background music.
