On May 4, traditionally, fans celebrate Star Wars Day, and Disney would not be itself if it had not prepared something original – this year, the company came up with particular enthusiasm and presented a replica of a retractable-blade lightsaber that looks exactly like an iconic attribute Jedi and Sith in the films of the saga. Short promotional video with a sword published on the Disney Parks YouTube channel.
The sword was created specifically for the Star Wars: Galactic Starcruiser-themed hotel, which will open at Walt Disney World in 2022. Its development first became known in early April, when the network got the design drawings of the device…
As you can see, the new lightsaber looks as authentic as possible – it is completely hidden in the handle, and the “plasma blade” appears only after activation. Previously published patents suggest that it uses an LED strip with a flexible substrate and a diffuser.
How notes The Verge could be a prototype – Walt Disney’s Imagineering Research and Development division is still developing a new version of the lightsaber. The toy should go on sale in 2022, at the same time as the Galactic Starcruiser hotel opens. Pricing details are not yet available, but given that Disney’s “regular” lightsabers are priced at $ 200 apiece in Galaxy’s Edge, you can expect the new model won’t be cheaper (it will likely be more expensive).
Star Wars fans and enthusiasts often try to recreate more realistic copies of weapons from a fantasy saga with their own hands. Among the most notable experiments is the fiery lightsaber created by the American engineer Allen Pan.
