Recently, CD Projekt RED was attacked by hackers who stole the source codes for Cyberpunk 2077 and The Witcher 3. The attackers threatened to sell them if the company did not pay the ransom within 48 hours. In turn, CD Projekt RED refused to engage in dialogue with the hackers and said it was working closely with law enforcement agencies.
After 48 hours, the hackers released the card game’s source code, Gwent from The Witcher 3. And then, the hackers set a price of $7 million for the source code of Cyberpunk 2077 and The Witcher 3. The auction time was again set to 48 hours, but the buyer was found much earlier. The hacker received a very lucrative offer, and they prematurely terminated the auction.
CD Projekt RED has already announced that due to this situation, the company’s short-term projects, including patches for Cyberpunk 2077, may be released at a later date.
