ASUS ROG Strix Scope RX is a mechanical keyboard with a good set of features. I did not find any flaws in it. Its keys are comfortable, quiet, and well suited for both typing and gaming. Nor will they interfere with the people around you. The keyboard is well assembled, has an additional USB port for connecting peripherals, and its design is protected from moisture. Due to all this, we get an almost perfect keyboard. The only thing missing is a broader selection of switches.
ASUS ROG Strix Scope RX is another good mechanical keyboard with quality construction, optical switches, and water-resistant. And this is enough to stand out and leave a good impression.
ASUS ROG Strix Scope RX complete set
There is nothing special to note in the keyboard configuration since apart from it and the documentation, there is nothing else in the box.
Design and Construction: It ASUS ROG Strix Scope RX Impressive Enough?
There is nothing special about the appearance of the keyboard. Everything here is standard for this class of peripherals: a monolithic, heavy construction weighing just over 1 kg, the top panel is made of thick metal, which pleasantly cools hands, and the base is made of high-quality plastic. With the backlight turned off, the keyboard looks as modest as possible and is not striking, and also takes up a minimum of space on the table. As for a full-size keyboard, of course.
When connected to a PC, ASUS ROG Strix Scope RX transforms – the keyboard is equipped with RGB backlighting of each key. And when combined with a dark gray top surface, the lighting looks stylish. It is configurable in a wide range – from all rainbow colors to subtle shades with muted brightness, up to a complete shutdown.
One of the main features of the keyboard is dust and moisture protection according to the IP56 standard. Thanks to this protection, you can not be afraid of spilling liquid on the keyboard or carrying/storing the device in less than clean conditions.
Equipment and Functionality
Let’s start with the main thing – switches. The ASUS ROG Strix Scope RX keyboard features attractive ROG RX Red Optical mechanical switches.
Recall that in optical switches, a laser beam is responsible for closing the contact and registering pressing, which interrupts the rod’s stroke. Thus, the structure is deprived of a vulnerable node – a metal bracket used to register pressing in other switches and wears out over time. Although the resource of conventional mechanical switches is 50-70 million clicks, the beam’s use in optical switches allows these values to be increased to 100 or more million clicks to failure. Simultaneously, the declared resource of switches in this keyboard is just equal to 100 million clicks, which will be enough for a very long time.
The ROG Strix Scope RX features “RED” keys, linear travel switches with no tactile or audible feedback. The total switch travel is 4mm, and the actuation point is 1.5mm from the start of the journey, making these switches fast enough for both gaming and typing. The keys do not emit unnecessary sounds in operation, except for the cap’s touch to the keyboard base. Another interesting point of the switch is its design – the LED is built into the center of the switch body, due to which the Cyrillic and Latin characters are illuminated equally evenly. We tested a localized keyboard with a short left Shift and one-story Enter. When looking at the keys, a relatively long left Ctrl immediately catches your eye, which is very convenient if used to pressing this key with your little finger in games.
To configure ASUS ROG Strix Scope RX, the proprietary Armory Crate utility is used. Here you can create macros, control the lighting, sync it with other ASUS devices that support Aura technology, and create settings profiles for different games. Here are some official FAQ’s that you can look over.
Basic settings can be made on the keyboard itself – brightness and backlight effects, player control using the Fn modifier. Of the exciting features, we can note the function of quickly minimizing all windows and turning off the sound assigned to the F12 key (without Fn). You can find the Drivers for your OS here.
