The Framework company, which released the laptop of the same name, began accepting pre-orders for its gadget. Its main features are ample opportunities for upgrades and repairs. Thus, the company opposes its invention to devices of popular brands, such as Apple, which are very difficult and expensive to repair and upgrade.
Nirav Patel, the founder of the company, draws attention to the fact that now the laptop market is not environmentally friendly. After a few years of purchase, a breakdown occurs, or the laptop itself becomes outdated and is replaced, which is harmful to the environment. Therefore, the Framework can be used for a very long time. The company plans to release motherboards for it with new generations of processors in the future.
And, it is worth noting that almost any component of the device can be replaced – from the keyboard, screen and battery, to a set of connectors. The physical ports of the laptop are located in easily removable modules. This allows the user to easily replace the USB-A connector with USB-C or other ports in a couple of minutes. Laptop accessories can be purchased from the Framework Marketplace.
With all this, the company managed to combine the impossible – both the simplicity of the design and the standard size of the device in its class. The Framework Laptop is a thin, lightweight 13.5-inch laptop with good performance. And, of course, it will be available in several configurations.
The Framework Laptop DIY Edition will be available for users who like to do everything with their own hands. It will be sold as a set of modules, like a constructor, for $750. By the way, users will be able to choose the OS to their liking.
The base configuration will be based on the Core i5-1135G7 chip, paired with 8GB of DDR4 memory. The capacity of NVMe-drive will be 256 GB. Of course, there will be a Wi-Fi 6 module. To make everything work out of the box, the laptop will have Windows 10 Home preinstalled. This model can be purchased for $1000.
A more powerful modification will receive 16 GB of RAM and 512 GB of permanent storage capacity. The i7-1165G7 with a clock speed of up to 4.7 GHz will be used as a processor. The user will have to pay $1400 for it.
And finally, the most top-end version. Core i7-1185G7 processor up to 4.8GHz, 32GB RAM, 1TB persistent storage, Wi-Fi 6 vPro, and Windows 10 Pro preinstalled.
To pre-order, you only need to deposit $100. Pre-orders are already being accepted in the US, and in a few weeks, will begin to be accepted in Canada. By the end of 2021, the device will reach Europe and Asia.
The exact dates for receiving orders have not yet been announced. It is reported that the delivery of devices will begin immediately after the end of production. This delay is due to a shortage of chips, due to which the company is missing one of the chips.
